Mission
Operation Gateway’s BOOST Program, made possible through the North Carolina Department of Information Technology (DIT) Grant, is designed to bridge the digital divide for justice-impacted individuals and those in recovery. BOOST provides access to essential technology—such as desktops, laptops, and cell phones—that helps people reconnect with loved ones, pursue education, secure employment, and access vital services. By equipping individuals with the tools they need to thrive in a digital world, BOOST supports successful reentry, strengthens recovery, and empowers our members to build stable, independent futures.

Desktops to OxFord Houses
Through the BOOST Grant, Operation Gateway has provided desktops to 15 Oxford Houses in Buncombe County in the first 3 quarters of 2025 giving residents in early recovery and those returning from prison vital access to opportunity. These computers open the door to employment, education, and connection—supporting job searches, online training, benefit applications, telehealth sessions, and communication with loved ones. By rebuilding digital literacy and creating structure, the desktops empower individuals to regain independence, strengthen their recovery, and stay connected to the resources and communities that help them thrive.

Cells phone Distribution
During the first 3 quarters of 2025, Operation Gateway has supplied over 200 cell phones to individuals fresh out of prison, jail, and recovery settings—providing a critical lifeline during one of the most vulnerable times in their journey. For many, a phone is the first step toward rebuilding stability: staying in touch with loved ones, connecting with employers, attending telehealth and recovery meetings, and accessing vital community resources. This simple tool helps break isolation, restore independence, and open doors to opportunity. At this time, OG is providing cell phones only to members of our Prison Reentry Program.

Laptop Distribution
Between July 2025 and August 2025, Operation Gateway has distributed 53 laptops to support individuals in training programs that lead to living-wage careers, such as Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) and Certified Community Health Worker (CCHW) certifications. These laptops also provide access to further education opportunities, allowing members to pursue degrees and credentials that strengthen long-term stability. In addition, they are vital tools for Operation Gateway’s virtual reentry meetings, building and submitting résumés, and connecting to employment opportunities. By equipping justice-impacted individuals with technology, we are helping them take concrete steps toward meaningful work, education, and independence.
